Audio tours are quickly becoming the newest craze in the travel industry and with thousands of tours available for destinations all over the world it's easy to see why.

Independent travelers are downloading tours in droves and can't get enough of the convenience and value for money audio tours provide.

Here's 10 reasons why you're going to love them too:

1. Save on All-Important Luggage Space

Forget about baggage limits and suitcases bursting at the seams, with an audio tour you can kiss goodbye your well-worn guidebook and replace it with one of the many slimline mp3 players that are on the market.

Good audio tours will walk you through all the sites covered in your guide book, with the added bonus of taking you to some of the real local haunts.

2. Cheap as Chips

Audio tours are significantly cheaper than comparable guided tours. For example, a tour of St. Peter's Basilica and the Sistine Chapel can easily cost around $US50 but an audio tour that takes in the same sights is likely to cost a quarter of the price and has so many advantages.

Instead of being a part of a crowded tour group and struggling to understand your guide you will be given your own personal tour complete with sound effects and stories that you can stop and start whenever you like.

Naturally, the more you save on a tour the more money you can spend on indulgent treats during your trip - that's gotta be a good thing!

3. Take in the Highlights

Audio tours are great if you've only got limited time to explore a destination or you just want an easy way to see everything a city has to offer. With such a large range of tours available you're guaranteed to find the holiday experience that you're after.

4. Travel at Your Own Pace

Independent travelers will love the freedom to create their own itinerary and discover a destination in their own time. The best audio tours break up all the stops into separate tracks so you can visit attractions that you're most interested in or rearrange the path the tour follows to suit yourself. Audio tours also give you the flexibility to stray from the itinerary and take time to explore for as long as you like.

5. Insider Info

If you want to visit places that only locals know about and discover the heart and soul of a city then audio tours are going to be your new best friend. Good audio tours are developed by local people. They reveal those little gems that you would never ever find by yourself and they'll tell you stories that will help you take the most away from your trip.
6. No Need for a Search Party

It's almost impossible to get lost when you've got a good audio tour. The best audio tours are divided into separate tracks and include a free numbered map that corresponds to the track your listening to. The map plots out the path the tour follows and clearly marks the stops you take along the way so you always know exactly where you are.

7. Look Like a Local

The days of waving your guidebook around and getting tangled in a map the size of a small country are over - now you can be a tourist without looking like one.

Audio tours allow you to be an 'undercover tourist'. Outsiders will be fooled into thinking you're taking a casual stroll around a city you know like the back of your hand when you're actually following clear directions from your audio guide.

8. A Memorable Experience

You're guaranteed to have an experience you'll never forget when you take an audio tour. In fact, studies show that people are more likely to retain information that they hear rather than information that they read from, say, a guidebook.

There's also the added benefit that you don't have to keep looking down to read your book, you simply listen while you take in your surroundings and enjoy the experience.
9. Quick and Easy to Download

Audio tours can be downloaded in a matter of seconds from anywhere in the world. From Madagascar to Miami, as long as you have an internet connection and an mp3 player you can download a tour anytime, day or night.

Adventure Travel and African Safaris in Zambia to Improve With the Kavango-Zambezi Tranfrontier

Is it possible to dream of a natural wilderness where African wildlife follows its ancient migration paths, oblivious of manmade borders and restrictions and where humans move freely also? Can people reap the benefits of Africa's nature through African safari holidays and adventure travel, but still take care of her at the same time? The Peace Parks Foundation would say yes.

Their mission, "To facilitate the establishment of transfrontier conservation areas (peace parks) and develops human resources, thereby supporting sustainable economic development, the conservation of biodiversity and regional peace and stability." Kavonga-Zambezi Transfrontier (KAZA) will become the world's largest conservation area straddling Zambia, Angola, Botswana, Namibia, and Zimbabwe.

Zambia and the four other countries involved are in the process of establishing a world-class conservation area in the Okavango and Zambezi river regions. They will link an immense network of national parks, game management areas and conservancies.

This is in fact one of the most exciting developments in African adventure travel and the safari experience in particular because a fundamental aspect to the KAZA concept is the idea that animal movements should not be constrained by artificial human boundaries.

What it means for you
KAZA will soon be a legal entity and only one visa will be required to tour this massive area. Already designated as the hub of KAZA Park, is Victoria Falls in Zambia making Zambia an attractive destination from which you can explore all other areas.

The biodiversity of KAZA is as phenomenal as the project itself - savannah, miombo, and mopane woodlands, wetlands, approximately 3000 species of plant life (of which some 100 are endemic) and more than 500 species of birds - many of which are found in Zambia.

KAZA's resident wildlife is also impressive containing Africa's largest contiguous elephant population as well as major populations of a wide range of species such as buffalo, hippopotamus, lion, lechwe, roan, sable, eland, zebra, wildebeest, waterbuck, puku, bushbuck, sitatunga, wild dogs, spotted hyena.

The new Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Park, is costing an estimated $100m to set up and is expected to contribute significantly to job creation. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the 5 countries in December 2006 and 2010 is the dateline for the KAZA project to be complete.

But don't hold your horses! You can enjoy this unique experience right now by visiting some of the national parks that KAZA will encompass. In Zambia these national parks include Kafue, Sioma Ngwezi, Barotseland, Mosi-oa-Tunya (Victoria Falls area), and Liuwa Plains.

Sara Brown is instrumental in the running of the Best of Zambia site, a website dedicated to putting Zambia on the map by creating a strong internet presence and successfully promoting Zambia and those operating in Zambia.

This site will help potential visitors to Zambia research this beautiful country, find the perfect holiday in Zambia, plan their trip and send out enquiries. As the site develops it will have useful links to the international development sector, commercial and investment opportunities and, local businesses and services.

The country has been colonized by the Spanish, Americans, as well as the Japanese, and the fusion of these influences has created a rich culture. This has also given the country an opportunity to market its travel and tourism industry.

Travel and tourism in the country is supported and made easier by different modes of transportation from one island to the other. The islands can be accessed by planes or boats. Touring within an island or a city is also easy because public land transportation can be hailed from anywhere.

Jeepneys and tricycles are ubiquitous in every area of the country. These are the basic mode of transportation and the cheapest too, for foreigners who are on a budget or for those who want to experience the adventure of travel like a Filipino.

Each region boasts of different popular tourist destinations. These destinations are accessible throughout the year. Tourists can choose any activity, from swimming in beautiful beaches, diving, surfing, exploring natural as well as man-made wonders such as the Rice Terraces in Banaue in Luzon.

Festivals also occur in different parts of the country at any time of the year, so tourists can still enjoy merrymaking no matter what time of the year they visit the country. Among the many popular festivals include the Ati-Atihan Festival in Kalibo, the Mascara Festival in Bacolod, and the Sinulog in Cebu. All these and more have made the country's travel and tourism vibrant throughout the year.

Travel and Leisure Vacations - What is Your Ideal Vacation Supposed to Be?

When you hear about travel and leisure vacations what thought or imagination gets into your head? Most people tend to think of travel and leisure vacations as eating to your maximum, filling up with as much alcohol as you can take, sandy beaches and fancy hotels.

Others usually take travel and leisure vacations to be expensive dining, drinking yourself crazy, Broadway theatre, or hi-rise buildings. All these imaginations are good and valid. Nonetheless, whatever thought, picture or imagination that one may have be it, a tropical Caribbean getaway to a relaxed bed and breakfast in a secluded five star hotel, only few people put into consideration deep adventure and travelling.

Although the idea of overseas travel and leisure vacations is relatively a new thing in town, they have been accepted very well and they are gaining quick publicity and popularity. Many groups are now organizing hiking vacations where they sleep in tents, eco-lodges or in sleeping bags under the stars of night.

Travelling is usually through road or on a horseback. Similarly, if the distance is not too far, you can also go on foot. During these types of travel and leisure vacations, you are supposed to carry your food as you will be getting to areas where there are no shops or supermarkets available. Although such an idea may not look possible, it is already in place in most parts of America and Africa.

According to my past experience, travel and leisure vacations should not be a time to always lie down from dawn to dusk. Take for example a person who is trying to cut weight and off he or she leaves for an overseas vacation.

This should not be the time to regain all the weight he or she had lost earlier on. Your vacation should most definitely be a time to relax from the normal hustles and bustles of each day at work or school. However, as much as you relax you should never forget about tomorrow.

Doing the abnormal

Travel and leisure vacations are guided by one concept of getting away from the normal routine. This concept draws knowledge from simple ideas such as, venting, relaxing and enjoying nature and avoiding anything that might bring back the normal stress of each working day. With the latest dimension on travel and leisure vacations, you should also expand your view to include other activities such as walking, jogging, biking or going to the gym in the morning.

Earlier concepts that were there from centuries ago and still find importance and massive support from many people include; meeting and interacting with new people, adventure travelling, visiting historic sites and tourist destination cities, and exploring other realities that have just heard over the media.

Eco-tourism has been the heart of travel and leisure vacations because of its uniqueness and the dynamic environment. It incorporates very amazing facts and ways of manipulating most traditional theories behind vacation. This has led to the inception of many tour companies all over the world.

Basic Travel and Vacation Safety Tips

Traveling far away needn't be worrisome, just follow these simple tips for staying safe on your next vacation or trip:

Do Your Research

One of the most important things you can do before a trip is to do your research. Research your hotels carefully, read the many available reviews to make sure the area in which you are staying is safe. Get all the best guide books for your destination and make sure they are the most recent versions.

The latest guidebooks will help you decide where to go and what to do, and also give you specific safety tips for that particular area. Get maps for each area you will travel around in, so you don't get lost. Visit hotel websites and tour websites. Don't hesitate to contact the hotel before booking, should have a question.

Hotel Safety

If you're hotel provides a safe, make sure to use it for any valuables you may have in your room. Take a note of where the exits and fire alarms are on your floor. When checking in to your hotel, don't leave your luggage unattended at any time. Consider registering with only your first initial and last name or as Mr. and Mrs. so that one cannot tell whether you are a male or a female or are a female traveling alone.

Be sure to memorize the hotel address and name or to carry a hotel matchbook or notepaper with you at all times to avoid confusion with similar hotel names. Try to avoid rooms on the ground floor of a hotel as they may have doors or windows that are open to the street or a back alley, increasing the chances of a break-in during your stay.

Guest rooms that are closer to the elevator are safest due to the higher amount of traffic passing by. However, these rooms may tend to be noisy, so consider a room that is one room away from the elevator as an alternative. Consider leaving your television and a light on when you leave the room, so a would be burglar would think someone is in the room.

Purchase a safety appliance such as the SwissTech BodyGard which has a hotel motion safety alarm option, where you can attach the alarm to your door and if someone tries to open it, the tool emits a loud noise.

Health Safety

Make sure you get any needed shots or vaccinations before your trip. Bring along a basic, compact first aid kit. Bring or rent a cell phone and make sure you are able to use it in the area where you are staying. Make sure to learn the basic emergency numbers for your area.

Make sure you bring any necessary prescription medications with you and keep them in their original container, clearly marked. Get travel insurance that covers any health problems or accidents you should have. Avoid drinking local water out of a tap, instead opt for bottled water.

Financial Safety

Avoid carrying a purse or wallet. Consider using a concealable waist or wrist belt to carry your passport, credit cards and money. Avoid wearing expensive looking clothing or jewelry, these items can make you a target. Consider taking just two or three credit cards only, instead of a stack.

Consider traveler's checks instead of credit cards. Only exchange money at reputable agencies and banks. Take a note of the credit card company phone numbers and keep them in a separate place on you. This way, if your credit cards are lost or stolen, you can call the credit card company right away.

Trip Planning Help

It may be helpful to use a trip planning website such as TripIt to organize all your tickets, times, maps and other important information. The service is free and you can share your itinerary with others in your party easily.

Dynamic Packaging for Travel and Hospitality Industry

The concept of Dynamic Packaging is to bundle all the components chosen by the aspiring traveler and create one reservation. Regardless of where the inventory originates, the package that is created is handled seamlessly as one transaction, and requires only one payment from the consumer.

To a traveler, there is nothing better than a one stop shop for his traveling needs. The Dynamic Packaging Engine uses a travel component inventory and prices. Regardless of where the inventory originates, the package that is created is handled seamlessly as one transaction, and requires only one payment from the consumer.

It automatically applies rules defined by the suppliers and the travel marketer to build and price travel packages. This package configuration process determines which components are used, what combinations of components are allowed or required, and handles inclusions such as taxes, fees or additional package features. Rules also determine how the final retail price is computed.

CAPABILITIES

A typical dynamic packaging application will need the following capabilities:

1. Search and Availability

2. Memberships

3. Shopping Cart

4. Booking and Reservations

5. Payments

6. Cancellations

SEARCH AND AVAILABILITY

A traveler always seeks a destination. Even though he may well be aware of where he needs to go to, he will search for the most appropriate place to stay and enjoy his visit. The search starts with a Transportation and Travel components, Hotel Property, Leisure Components. The search therefore has to be divided geographically to include destinations and neighboring destinations that meet the search criteria.

An example search could be travel to New York City, stay at Stamford, Connecticut, Golf at upstate New York. Clearly the Dynamic Packaging engine needs to know the dates of travel, from and to destinations, closest airport to hotel, rental car or other desired ground transportation from selected airport to hotel and access to tee times at the neighboring golf courses. Like the traveler, businesses also seek travel related information.

Travel Agents, Call Centers, and Meeting Planners need packaged information on behalf of their clients. Such a search is riddled with rules and complexity. Besides, the customer needs to have choices that can vary from comfort to price and everything else in between.

1. Proximity: The search uses parameters that can narrow down possibilities yet offer extended possibilities. In our search example, Westchester Airport would have been the best choice. La Guardia airport would be an ideal choice. JFK and Newark and Teterboro are the next choices from a distance to Hotel point of view.

2. Fare and Rates: The traveler will look for the best fare. In our example though Westchester is close to the hotel, offers limited Airlines and perhaps not the best fares. Some fares maybe very attractive, however when it comes to flexibility and cancellation they are not the best. Flexibility of change, penalties associated with change and cancellation are important factors to include in the search results.

3. Travel Times: That's another important factor for the business traveler. How many flights are there to the airport and at what intervals. Check in times and total time to travel also helps in determining his choice. Therefore non-connecting and connecting flights with layover times need to figure in the search.

4. Accessibility: Another key factor often not paid attention to is accessibility. Physically impaired travelers, people who need meals on a flight, wheelchair access, and quick access to rental cars or trains or ground transportation play a very important role in travel. Do the hotel(s) have wheelchair access? Is it possible to get ground transportation to destined hotel that has wheelchair access?

5. Amenities: Does the hotel offer standard amenities like restaurants, swimming pool, health parlors, spa, fax and printing, broadband Internet access etc? Similarly does the rental car come with GPS, insurance, inter state travel? Does the Golf Course allow only cart access? Are ski rentals available near the resort? The inclusion of amenities in a search result ensures the traveler is not in for surprises at the first lap of travel.

6. Prepackaged: You want to travel, stay in a semi luxury hotel, play golf, why search for each individually. A prepackaged deal would also be more attractive than customizing the travel. Perhaps cheaper.

Travel should be far from being hostile. It is after all a home away from home. A home is a pivotal source for living and entertainment. One uses the home and its peripheral surroundings to make the best of living.

The travel destinations and the mode of travel should be as non hostile and as hospitable as is possible. A dynamic packaging should offer a wealth of choices to the traveler yet not inundate the traveler with so much information that he/she is nervous wreck at the end of an itinerary creation.

ACTORS

From the above description one can determine who the obvious actors are in this case.

1. The Traveler

2. GDS (Airlines and Hotels Rate Distribution)

3. Airlines

4. Car Rental Companies

5. Hotel Central Reservation

6. Tour Operators (Buses, Ground Transportation)

7. Proprietary Aggregators (like Golf, Ski etc.)

MORE ACTORS

The Dynamic Packaging should be capable of extending the services for business-to business operations. Which would imply that our actors now are?

8. Travel Agents and Meeting Planners

9. Call Center Agents.

SHOPPING CART

The key item in dynamic packaging is the Shopping Cart. The results of search can be selected and added as line items in the shopping cart. It bundles all the components chosen by the traveler to create one reservation. This shopping cart based vacation builder allows comparison shopping of packages that can include plane tickets, hotel rooms, rental cars, insurance, attraction tickets and other features.

The Idea of Travel and Leisure

It is a big treat to travel not for any business or work-related reasons but simply for leisure and pleasure. For those who are new to this kind of thrill, there are a thousand ways to plan an itinerary given that one has the right knowledge and the right financial budget.

The main essence of travel and leisure is not to simply travel and see places but to bring the concept of traveling to new heights by allowing oneself leisurely experiences while exploring the sights and sounds of the entire area.

To determine the right fitted itinerary for your specific needs, a great consideration should be placed on the questions that most travelers ask. Will I be traveling alone or with a companion? What do I need to know if I plan to take the whole family for a leisurely vacation?

Traveling Solo

Most of the practical neophytes opt to go for a pre-planned itinerary that contains a complete set of services including the two-way travel ticket, the accommodation, the course of trips and tours, and other add-on services and perks that some travel agency offers.

Going for a cruise type of solitary vacation is getting popular nowadays especially that the romantic promises of an immense horizon and endless waterworld-type of environment is too much to resist for people who escapes from the busy buzz of the urban jungle.

Try the Caribbean or Norwegian cruise that would certainly break the monotony of your cyclical and routine-based existence. When you travel alone, try to bring a book, an ipod, or maybe something that would keep your hands busy such as art and painting materials or a writing implement to preoccupy your mind. There are also hotels and resorts that have customized their accommodations for those who want to spend their time alone and relax without worries.

Traveling with a Loved One

The concept of leisure and travel especially for honeymooners requires a focused planning especially in the creation of an itinerary of activities. To make it easier for couples and lovers, there are resorts and hotels that provide holistic services from wellness activities to superbly executed food and dining services.

For a leisurely experience, couples mostly engage in activities that are not usually possible when they are on their usual ground. Some of these activities are scuba diving, parasailing, skiing, island hopping, mountain trekking, and even game hunting.

In sharing a leisurely but quiet togetherness, couples could simply pamper themselves by getting a spa massage with soothing music on the background or by engaging in yoga and tai chi sessions to maintain the harmony of mind and body.

Traveling with the whole family

This is a tricky vacation getaway especially if you are bringing a baby or a toddler on your trip. Some wealthy families think leisure and travel hiring a nanny to look after the baby but some believe that carefully planning the whole vacation spree will eliminate most of your headaches when the actual trip already begins.

One advice is to only bring the things that are necessary to at least minimize the bulk of luggage that you will be dragging with you. There are hotels and even restaurants that cater for a bigger number of customers and clients. Make sure to check out these places before barking on a family journey.

Five Reasons Why You Should Work For the Travel and Tourism Industry

The travel and tourism industry is a massive global industry that caters for the needs of those who have to travel away from home in terms of providing facilities and services like hotel accommodation, air and road transport.

Close to a billion people are involved in international travel in this industry which generates billions of dollars every year. Sometimes making a decision on which industry to work for can be quite hard given the many options available today across the globe. Below are five reasons why you should consider working in the travel and tourism industry.

1. There are lots of work opportunities. The travel and tourism industry has a lot of opportunities employment for those seeking employment. You can work in the aviation sector, road, rail and water transport, accommodation providers like hotels and lodges, leisure and business travel agents and tour guides.

It is now also possible to work from home thanks to technology which is convenient for some people like mums who have a child or children and do not want to be far away from home.

2. The perks are good. The travel industry provides rewards that not many other industries do. For example those working in the airline industry can get free tickets for themselves and immediate family members to fly to any destination that the airline they work for flies to.

Those who work as travel agents can get reduced travel fares and even pay reduced accommodation rates. Then there are the familiarization trips that those who work in the industry have the opportunity to take. Just think of an all expenses paid trip to places like the Seychelles, France, the Kenyan coast of Mombasa to name just a few.

3. It is a growing industry. In spite of the recent downturn because of the threat of terrorism and the world recession, travel industry players are optimistic about its growth. In good times and bad times people always get the urge to move.

And with more and more places becoming accessible because of air travel and with both air travel and hotel rates coming down in order to accommodate peoples pocket there is reason to believe that the travel industry will continue to grow and more markets will be reached which is good news for service providers.

Furthermore technology like the internet has made it possible to access markets anywhere in the world, at any time of the day.

4. It is never boring. Working in the industry almost means that you will meet new people from time to time. This is especially true for those who work as frontline staff in travel agencies, airline offices or hotels.

Those who work in the airline industry as flight attendants have the opportunity to travel to different parts of the world, visit different towns and cities and see and experience different cultures. That can never be a boring job.

5. You do not need years of studying to work in the industry. You may love a certain profession but because of the years of studying involved in learning it you may be discouraged from joining it. Not so with the travel and tourism industry.

Three to six months may be enough depending on what qualification you are studying for to get you started working for this exciting industry. Some people because of their love for the work and experience gained in certain areas of the industry have even started working and studied for the paper qualifications later.

Traveling and Seeing the Real World

Traveling is wonderful. You see new things, experience new cultures, eat cool foods, and have fun. I believe it helps open the mind and possible increase creativity as well.

All travel is good, but quite honestly you only see and experience so much when you go on a tour, stay in tourist hotels, and hang out with fellow tourists most of the time.

I'm not knocking tourism at all, and have been a tourist at times, but to really see an area you need to travel rather independently, not with a group of tourists.

Most of the world does not have tourist hotels, but has perfectly fine hotels the locals stay in when they travel. You won't find starred Michelin restaurants, but plenty of inexpensive and tasty local places to eat.

You might meet a few travelers, but you'll certainly interact with the locals as well. Communication may not be fully in English, but you'll be amazed how much you can communicate even when there is no or little common language.

Best of all, you will see and experience far more, most likely enjoy it immensely.

Traveling in most of the world is very inexpensive, yes, I said inexpensive. A week as a tourist in France might cost you two or more thousand dollars per person not including airfare, and I'll add is quite worth it.

For the same price you can quite easily have a blast for a couple of months very easily in many fascinating and perfectly safe areas of the world. You travel and eat extremely well, stay in comfortable locations, and have a wonderful and enlightening time. Of course you can travel in France much more cheaply as well.

Now some areas of the world are easier to travel in than others. A novice traveler probably shouldn't travel sub Saharan Africa for example, although the area is fascinating. Southeast Asia however is very simple to travel in and one of the more popular areas.

Most of the countries feature easy travel, plenty of accommodations, absolutely great food, and well beaten paths full of other travelers as well. South America is another area that is wonderful to travel in as in Central America, and a little Spanish goes a long way if you happen to know some.

Traveling is more about being there than moving rapidly in a crazy attempt to see everything. You never can see everything anyways. So slow down, take a few weeks or months (yes, you can if plan ahead), and see the world.

Why it is Good to Travel in Tour Groups

The more the merrier is what my grandmother always said. When you travel in a group it is fun especially if you are with like minded people. As a student hanging out in a gang was cool and looked forward to.

If you are going on a group tour then it is all the more pleasurable as you can enjoy a variety of adventures with fellow enthusiasts. There are also advantages in group travel.

First when you book with a tour group you know before hand the places you will be traveling to and what kind of people will accompany you. This will help you in deciding whether you need to undertake the journey or not.

Also you will come to know about your accommodation, food and the duration of stay at each place. For example; if you are going on a tour of religious places, then you will know which places you will be visiting and for how many days. Knowing about the weather conditions will help you pack appropriate clothing.

Secondly you can get your entire package at cheap cost. When bulk booking is done, the airline as well as hotel offers considerable reduction in fares. This reduction is passed on to you by your tour operator. Sometimes tour operators offer great discounts for large groups.

If you book 10 people, you can get a free ticket or two. Whereas the total cost is divided between all the 10 in the group. This will help in bringing down your ticket fare.

As a student it is fun to travel with friends to the mountains or beach. Student concessions can help you in getting low cost tickets and you can always stay in hostels where again the rates are quite reasonable. Whether it is an educational tour or adventure tour you can always avail reduction in rates.

Also you can enjoy being with your age group and have fun on the tour. The hassle of booking for tickets, hotel bookings and food can be avoided when you travel in tour groups. Your tour operator takes care of everything and you are saved of all the bother.

Also tour operators will know more about the place you wish to travel to, as it is his profession to make bookings. You may otherwise miss out on a few must see places. At the same time you are free to explore on your own to learn about the culture of the place.

If you are a woman and don't wish to travel alone then group tours are the best for you. You can explore the world all by yourself at the same time your safety is taken care of by the tour operator.

There are group tours for senior citizens, students and all age groups. So next time you decide to go sight seeing remember to travel in a group tour that is both adventurous and advantageous as well.

Tour groups also cover insurance and other problems that might happen on the road so you don't have to handle it yourself. Tour groups are a great way to meet other travelers, ease into travel, and get group discounts.

They also take all the planning out of travel. All you have to do is show up. Consider a tour group when you travel.

Student Group Travel and Cultural Spanish Excursions

For educators, nothing is more meaningful in student group travel than seeing a student connect with a new culture through a cultural immersion program.

Rich destinations such as San Antonio, Costa Rica or the Yucatan Peninsula provide opportunities for student groups to experience the wonders of these countries while learning about their language and the local customs.

San Antonio, Texas is one of the most beautiful and culturally rich cities in the United States, where student groups can explore the relationships between Mexico and the U.S. and become immersed in the local social, cultural, and linguistic adventures.

Imagine the fun and connections made as students participate in a dance lesson at the Instituto de Mexico, where they also have the opportunity to examine works by local artists. Later, they can experience the famous San Antonio River Walk with a cruise and Mexican dinner. The Paseo Del Rio, in the heart of the downtown, is the pride of the city.

River cruisers travel the RiverWalk's three miles past unique shops, restaurants, and nightclubs. A visit to San Antonio also includes a visit with University of Mexico students who are trying to perfect their English skills.

More Spanish adventures are available with visits to attractions such as the Spanish Governor's Palace in the Alamo, Natural Bridge Caverns, and the studio of an internationally renowned blind artist.

In addition, student visitors come away with a greater understanding of Texas history and folk culture, gain new appreciation for Texas architecture with visits to various missions (including the Alamo), and create their own Mexican artwork.

An immersion trip to Costa Rica provides student with an opportunity to practice their Spanish skills and interact with Costa Ricans. Students will gain confidence as they meet residents of communities and small towns who are eager to welcome and communicate with them in their native tongue.

Student groups can also become acquainted with the geographic diversity and beauty of Costa Rica with a visit to Arenal Volcano National Park, hot thermal springs, and the famous Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve.

Visitors cross the Selvatura hanging bridges and take a canopy tour on the zip-line above the treetops where wildlife and natural habitats abound. The adventure also includes travel to Manuel Antonio National Park, with its unusual combination of white sand beach and evergreen forest.

En route, visitors observe country life with a visit to a traditional Costa Rican farm. And imagine the surprise one experiences as they view one of the largest colonies of crocodiles in Costa Rica at the Tarcoles River.

In addition to interfacing with cultural Costa Rica, travel groups learn about the region's wide variety of flora and fauna, visit with local artists, and enjoy popular activities such as rafting, horseback riding, and beach activities.

Student tours find new inspiration for learning with a culturally-rich trip to Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. They not only work on their Spanish conversation skills, but also explore the wild beauty of Mexico's natural environment.

Visitors become acquainted with two marvelous Cenotes located in a small village. The Cenotes, or sinkholes, are where underground rivers have broken through the limestone crust of the earth. A ride on horse-drawn trucks brings students into the jungle to visit and swim in the beautiful, clear Cenotes.

Conversational Spanish is also a highlight of the program, when students meet with a local Spanish teacher and then enjoy a walking tour of Merida, the capital of the state of Yucatan. In the evening, the traditional dance of the Yucatan, the Jarana, is an exciting spectacle.

No visit to Yucatan is complete without a tour of the Mayan archaeological site of Uxmal, where the 115-foot-high Pyramid of the Magician and the impressive Governor's House are wonders to behold.

Student tours also embrace the Spanish culture in Yucatan by learning handicrafts and culinary skills of the country, learning Latino dance steps with a Salsa dance specialist, and snorkeling in the freshwater lagoons of Xel-Ha.

Travel Europe Tours of Brussels, Belgium

Brussels is one European capital that's easy to miss on your grand tour of Europe. The whole little country of Belgium is easy to miss, but it's one that you really shouldn't.

It has lots to offer. This grand old city is not only the capital of Belgium, it's the Capital of the European Union.

Something you'll have to get used to in all of Belgium, is that there are two languages... everywhere. Dutch and French, so you'll often see signs in both languages. It's Brussels in English... "Brussel" in Dutch and "Bruxelles" in French.

You'll get along fine in either language or English. Our friends in Belgium slip from one language to another with ease that puts us to shame.

Right in the center of the city is where you want to be. "La Grand Place" or "Grote Markt" is the main square right in the heart of the old town.

This huge cobble stone square is surrounded by the city tower and 300 year old buildings... most of which were guild halls.

There are really only a few old streets left around the square, but they're fun to wander. Shop for chocolates. Have Belgian Waffles with caramelized sugar on the square.

(Luikse wafel or gaufre de Liege). Definitely have a beer. The Belgians are known for their beers... there are over a hundred breweries in this little country producing hundreds of different brands and many types of beer!

When you stop to eat, you'll have to have mussels (moules). You can have French fries (fritjes or frites) with them, or have fritjes as a snack. If you want to eat those fries as the Belgians do, have them with mayonnaise.

The first time we visited friends in Belgium, they made it a point to serve us Brussels sprouts... but you don't have to eat those if you don't want to! If you order any of these as a snack, you can take them and sit on steps or benches around the square just as the locals do.

Just a short walk from the Grand Place-Grote Markt is the Manneken Pis. EVERYONE wants to see this fountain with its funny little statue.

And it is little.... smaller that you think it will be... especially since it's reputation precedes it all over the world. You know what we're talking about... the funny bronze statue of a little boy... well, Manneken Pis says it all doesn't it? Maybe he had one too many beers?

There is a museum full of little outfits that have been created for the little boy... if you're lucky (or unlucky depending on your viewpoint), you might even see him dressed in one, but they are usually kept in the museum. Signs will direct you to the corner where he stands.

For a little culture, visit the Royal Museums of Fine Arts off one end of the main square. There are two museums linked together here, the Ancient Art Museum and the Museum of Modern Art. If you like early Flemish masters, the Ancient Art Museum is for you.

Easy Adventure Travel -Trekking Tours, Equipment and Experience from Vacation Packages

Should adventure travel always be tough and only for the gifted few with an extraordinary good physical condition and excellent health? My experience from different trekking tours is NO.

Now a days travel companies are offering a wealth of vacation packages with a great variety of adventure tours to outstanding destinations with a great potential for a fantastic experience even for the elderly or less fit person.

Vacation packages from specialized travel companies can take you to remote corners of the world with a minimum of risk and with keen guides to maximize your experience. Just ask beforehand to know exactly what the tour demands of the participants to know if the tour is something for your abilities.

Many adventure travels take you to mountainous regions meaning that the terrain can be difficult, steep or slippery. Often you might benefit from doing some training in the months before to be properly fit, especially if it is a trekking tour.

I have been trekking in Central Asia, on adventure travel to Antarctica, on camping tours to the national parks of Africa, on wildlife observation in Alaska, on birding tours to Australia, South East Asia and Latin America and to many other once in a life time travel destinations.

In many cases I have been buying vacation packages that allowed me to join a rather easy adventure travel to one of my favorite travel destinations.

When you sign up for an adventure tour through a travel company your will often join a group tour to the exotic travel destination.

In some cases the vacation package can be just for individuals or a couple, but in my experience it typically ends up joining a small group on the vacation.

I have been with national groups and in many cases with international groups of travelers. In all cases it has worked very well.

It can be very rewarding to be traveling with an international group. You will learn a lot from your fellow travelers, not least because all will come closer together on adventure travels. Some people are frightened by the plain thinking of being that close to other unknown fellow travelers. In reality I think nearly all participants will benefit from the company.

For example will the variety of travelers provide you with a lot of additional information as different people have different kinds of knowledge and interests. Besides that you can expect to learn many interesting aspects of life by talking with other travelers on the journey.

Especially when you are going on a more exotic journey you will learn a lot from your travel mates.

Of course you need proper trekking equipment if you have signed up for a trekking tour, but some travel companies will provide you with all the more specialized trekking equipment, except personal items like proper trekking cloth and trekking boots.

I think you should be especially careful when selecting a backpack for trekking and your trekking boots.

As I am a traveling photographer I am very aware of a good preparation related to my digital camera equipment.

I also pay close attention to get the proper travel guide books and topographical maps of the travel destinations.

I use a check list for each travel, generated from a standard checklist I have. It is easy to adapt it to the specific adventurous travel I am preparing on the computer.

It's a big difference to prepare for a tour to one of the poles compared to a tour to the tropical rain forest in South America, or the desert in Sahara or to a Caribbean cruise.
